Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft provides Microsoft 365 (Office 365) free of charge to students and instructors of the university. With your university account, you can register directly with Microsoft and gain access to all services included in Microsoft 365. An overview of included products is available on the official Microsoft page: https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/education/products/office. Services include, among others:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Microsoft Teams
  • OneDrive
  • SharePoint
  • Web apps and desktop applications (depending on license)
A Windows license is no longer part of this offering and cannot be obtained this way.

Registration and Support

Registration for Microsoft 365 is handled directly by Microsoft. The university/Campus IT only provides the eligible university email address.

Microsoft 365 is not a service operated or supported by Campus IT. Support is available exclusively through Microsoft’s online help and documentation.

Use After Exmatriculation

After exmatriculation, you can usually continue to use your Microsoft 365 account (for example OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint) for about one year. After that period, access is automatically blocked and the account, including all stored data, is permanently deleted.

Please back up all important content in time, for example files from OneDrive, materials from Teams, or documents from SharePoint.
Data recovery after deletion is not possible.

Data Security and Responsibility

Microsoft 365 does not provide full backup functionality. Recycle bins and version history features (for example in OneDrive or SharePoint) only protect against data loss for a limited time (usually around 30 days). Users are responsible for losses caused by accidental deletion, incorrect operation, or malware.

Regularly back up all important data outside Microsoft 365 as well, for example to external storage or a private cloud.
